Tim Benge
Band, Brass, Woodwinds & Concert Percussion
— brings a wealth of expertise and experience to share with students of music. After starting his study of the trumpet at 9 years old, Tim’s love of music led to a very rewarding career as a performer, conductor, producer and teacher. In addition to earning his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Music as well as a Doctor of Musical Arts degree, Dr. Benge has toured professionally throughout the United States, Canada, and Western Europe.
As a teacher, Tim guides students to discover the joy of music. “Playing music should be fun,” he says. “Never let our quest for correctness, however important, get in the way of the joy.” While many of Tim’s former students are now professional players, composers, and University professors of music, many more still play just for the reward of playing music.
Other parts of Tim’s journey in music include owning a recording studio, teaching music in the public schools, managing non-profit music programs, and conducting scholastic, professional and community ensembles. Dr. Benge recently retired from his position as Director of Instrumental Music at Edison High School (Huntington Beach) and now lives in Wrightwood full-time.
